YouthVenture is an organization that supports young people (aged 12-20) in starting businesses and service programs to enrich their communities. The organization does this by connecting young people with "allies" (adults who can help them develop a business plan and budget and solve technical problems, among other things); by providing tips and guidelines for starting ventures, and by providing small grants and loans.

    This is an on-line magazine that has great ideas for kids and for families who are thinking about starting a business, planning careers, and investing. Go into the ‘Treps link for information designed for kids.

    This site has on-line "courses" about starting a business and marketing your products. It also leads you to the WhizNetwork where teen entrepreneurs can meet each other.

  Small Business Association: Starting Your Own Business
    The U.S. government sponsors this site. It provides the information on Success Stories, First Steps about how to start a small business, and self-paced activities that can help you to create a business plan. Most importantly, this web site also has a Spanish version!!

    “You’ve got the dream. Now get it done” is the major message of this site. It provides a huge amount of information. For example, if you go into the Community Section under Starting a Business, you can read what other people have written in about start-up financing, start-up legal issues, and start-up ideas. If you go into the Tools Section, you can print out market research forms that will help you identify your customers’ needs better. The site also has “Localbusiness.com” link that offers local business news and information sources on how to get business advice, etc.

    Planning is the first step to success in business. This site helps you think through who your customers will be and how much your costs might be. It offers you help on creating business plans and marketing plans, and you can use cost calculators and chat live on-line with operators who will answer your questions on this subject.
