How to Prevent Computer Problems

1. Installing certain other Internet service providers (ISPs), such as AOL, Earthlink, NetZero, Juno & Prodigy, will disable your Internet Explorer (I.E.) and other Internet applications including your FirstClass software making it impossible for you to get FirstClass email. To avoid these problems, check with the Help Desk or a Tech Helper before installing a new ISP.
2. Purchase anti-virus software (e.g. McAfee or Norton).
3.

Speak with a Help Desk Associate before installing any new software or hardware.

4.

Be careful when plugging in keyboard, mouse and monitor cables – pins are fragile and may break or bend.

5. Be vigilant about viruses. For instance, sharing disks with others, downloading material from the Internet or opening email attachments may infect your computer with a virus. Call the Help Desk or ask your Tech Helper if you have questions or concerns.
