Hello everyone. My name is Mario.
I'm currently working on my degree in Political Science/History at Queens College. I enjoy reading, going to the movies, museums, and playing sports. I make it my business to be at the park every Saturday at 8 a.m. where I meet with my cousins and their uncles to play basketball for at least 3 hours. This is where I get all the frustration and stress out of my system. I also play soccer.
I came to NYC from Mexico when I was 12 years old. Back then I didn't know the language, and it was difficult for me to navigate the school system. I remember my very first days in mainstream classes (English Only), and how I used to sit all the way in the back of the room, hiding from everyone, and hoping not to be called on.
Now that I've learned the language, there's no end to my ideas and my participation in class. With the experience that I now have, I feel that it's my responsibility to help students who have difficulties in school, especially those who have recently come from other countries.
Feel free to write to me at onmymind@communitycorner.org if you have ideas about how to improve the site.
